First, a few facts... I am sixteen years old, I live in Southbury, Connecticut, and I am a sophomore at Pomperaug High School. Most of my friends call me Rob although my family usually call me Robbie.
I am an active participant in my school. I run cross country, winter track and spring track and I also play trumpet in the school band. I also am a part of the Tri-M music honors society which helps out with charity work.
In addition to the honor of being nominated and accepted into the "People To People Student Ambassador" program, I am proud to say that I’ve had a number of other accomplishments in recent years:
- I have earned high honors throughout my two years of High School
- I was awarded the American Citizenship Award for my school's region for the 2010 - 2011 school year. This award is given out by the National Association of Secondary School Principals to honor students "who has shown by their words and actions that they possess the qualities and characteristics we hope to instill in all our students."
- I was awarded the Outstanding Academic Achievement from The President's Education Awards Program to "honor students who have achieved high academic goals through hard work and dedication to learning"
- I have earned a black belt in Taekwon Do, a style of martial arts that emphasizes ethics, etiquette, justice, respect, and self-confidence
One of my favorite subjects in school is history, I also enjoy learning about current events. I am really excited about participating in the People-to-People program because we will learn more about the history of in Europe and I will get to better understand how people in other countries view us Americans.
Personally, I think of my self as a kind,
caring, and intelligent person but I understand that there is always room for bettering yourself. This is another reason why I want to go on the trip. I think it will cause me to grow as a person. It will encourage me to act out of my comfort zone and
gain different perspectives. Hopefully, what changes in me will make me a better person.
